The 14-time Grammy winner and 3-time Super Bowl champion arrived at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday in looks that were designed to achieve different things. Taylor Swift arrived in a decidedly more muted look, finished off by lashings of sentimental jewellery – including her '87' necklace in honor of Kelce's jersey number. While this was his fourth Super Bowl game in four years, he must have felt the additional eyes — mainly of the Swifties and the style press — on him. “We were thinking, this is the first Super Bowl in Las Vegas, so why not really let it represent that entertainment feel that Vegas is known for, and let him shine a bit.” Perhaps more crucially, it’s also his first Super Bowl as the boyfriend of a global superstar. Sandringham, the private home of the last six British monarchs, sits amid parkland, gardens and working farms about 110 miles (180 kilometers) north of London. This history has made Sandringham a special place for Charles and his entire family. One of the most famous stately homes in Britain, Sandringham sits on an 8,000-hectare (20,000-acre) estate in Norfolk on the eastern coast of England. On the day he died, George reportedly spent the afternoon on the estate with his dogs and a gun. When he was at Cambridge, Charles would often invite friends to spend weekends with him enjoying the shooting at Sandringham.

London CNN —It will be a bittersweet day for Britain’s royal family Friday as they mark not only the first year of King Charles III’s reign but the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Charles is currently in Balmoral – the beloved royal property in Aberdeenshire where his mother retreated annually for a summer break. The Prince and Princess of Wales viewed the floral tributes to the Queen at Sandringham, September 15, 2022. The pair will then meet people from the local community – some of whom previously met Queen Elizabeth II during various visits to the city. For several royal experts, the King has used the past 12 months to blend the two reigns and strengthen the monarchy.

Opinion: What King Charles should do now
  + stars: | 2023-05-07 | by ( Opinion Keith Magee | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
Editor’s note: Keith Magee is senior fellow and visiting professor in cultural justice at University College London Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose. Keith Magee Arron DunworthFor King Charles III, his coronation Saturday at London’s Westminster Abbey was the culmination of a lifetime spent preparing to ascend to the throne. The British monarch is, in theory at least, a neutral figurehead with no political affiliations, no manifesto and no discernible allegiance to any side in the so-called culture wars. If the sovereign joins them, other such families, organizations and eventually the UK government (despite its current stance) will surely follow suit. If that happens, Charles might yet, like his mother at the time of her coronation, become the living embodiment of a nation’s hope for a better, fairer future at home and abroad.
Anointed with holy oil and enthroned on St. Edward’s chair, King Charles III was crowned on Saturday in a solemn ritual that stretches back more than a millennium but unfolded with multiple concessions to the modern age. The coronation, the first since Queen Elizabeth II’s in 1953, was a royal spectacle of the kind that only Britain still stages: four hours of pageantry that began with the clip-clop of horses’ hooves on Pall Mall and ended with the vaporous trails of acrobatic jets streaking above Buckingham Palace, as Charles watched from the balcony with Queen Camilla, who had been crowned shortly after him. Yet this was a coronation for a radically different country than when Elizabeth first wore the crown. Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and Sikh leaders greeted Charles as he left Westminster Abbey, and there were various attempts — not always successful — to make a medieval ritual more inclusive and democratic. Female bishops from the Church of England took part in the liturgy; hymns were sung in Welsh, Scottish and Irish Gaelic; and when Charles, 74, took a sacred oath to defend the Protestant faith, he also offered a personal prayer, in which he promised to be a pluralistic monarch for a diverse society.
Just 21% say their views on the royal family have gotten more positive over the past decade, with another 41% saying their overall opinion has stayed the same. A CNN poll suggests attitudes towards the British royal family have worsened over the past decade, ahead of the coronation of King Charles III. Prince Harry (right) and Meghan (left) are among those members of the royal family rated most favorably by young people. Jamie Lorriman/AFP/Getty ImagesBut not all members of the royal family are viewed in the same light. The poll was conducted on March 24 through 26 among a random sample of 2,093 UK adults aged 18 and older.
But it’s not without its traps, as King Charles III learned last weekend when the organizers of his coronation invited millions of Britons to pledge an oath of homage to the monarch during the ceremony on Saturday. “More like the stuff of a Stalinist people’s republic,” wrote the columnist Mick Hume. Such are the problems vexing Charles as he prepares for his coronation, Britain’s first in 70 years. In the seven months since he ascended the throne, royal watchers say, the new king has worked to make the monarchy more accessible, forward looking and inclusive. Yet the hoary rituals of the coronation are a reminder of how — in a secular, multiethnic, digital-age society — the crown is fundamentally an anachronism.
CNN —King Charles III’s sister Princess Anne has said that a slimmed-down monarchy “doesn’t sound like a good idea.”Comments by the Princess Royal, who is 16th in line to the British throne and is considered to be one of the hardest-working royals, were made during a wide-ranging interview Monday. In the years before Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the royal family’s advisers had been promoting the idea of a slimmed-down monarchy that saw senior family members like Charles and Camilla as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales take on more duties. “Well, I think the ‘slimmed-down’ [comment] was said in a day when there were a few more people around … [to] make that seem like a justifiable comment,” Anne told CBC News’ Adrienne Arsenault. “It doesn’t sound like a good idea from where I’m standing, I would say. CNN —“Pretty, are you sitting down?” South African soprano Pretty Yende was performing in Vienna last December when she received a call from her manager. She had just been booked for the biggest gig of her life: a performance at the coronation of King Charles III. As one of three soloists at the ceremony, it’s thought that Yende is the first African to be invited to perform solo at a British coronation. The coronation will not be the first time King Charles has watched Yende perform; he saw the soprano sing at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s 75th anniversary gala, held at Windsor Castle in April 2022. Pretty Yende performs in "Lucia Di Lammermoor" at the Bastille Opera House in Paris in October 2016.

CNN —Prince Harry will attend the coronation of King Charles next month, but his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will remain in the United States with the couple’s children, Buckingham Palace said Wednesday following months of speculation. “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” the palace said in a statement. Details of the sibling rivalry between Harry and his brother Prince William were also shared. The palace has not specified which members of the family will appear in the procession and on the balcony.
LONDON — Prince Harry will deliver another highly publicized blow to Britain's royal family Sunday, in a pair of TV interviews two days before the publication of his much-anticipated memoir. In conversations with Tom Bradby, a news presenter at British broadcaster ITV, and with Anderson Cooper on CBS' “60 Minutes,” Harry is expected to shed more light on the acrimonious royal split. Timed to coincide with the release of his autobiography, “Spare,” trailers from both interviews show Harry accusing his family of fueling negative news coverage about him and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. In the memoir Harry accuses his brother of physically attacking him during an argument over his marriage to Meghan. The two first outlined their side of the story in their bombshell interview with media mogul Oprah Winfrey, accusing members of the family of racism.
Among the killers of Afghans, not many have your decency to reveal their conscience and confess to their war crimes,” he said. Several British news outlets, including the broadcaster Sky News, have reported that Harry has written that he did not “think of those 25 as people." A poster advertising the launch of Prince Harry's memoir in a store window in London on Friday. His elder brother, Prince William, is the next in line to their father, King Charles III. Among the most serious of Harry's accusations is that his brother physically attacked him during an argument over his marriage to Meghan.
LONDON — Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, were expected to level stinging new criticisms at the British royal family in the second installment of their Netflix documentary series, which was released Thursday morning. "I wasn’t just being thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves," Meghan says. The trailer shows Harry on board a plane, which he describes as a "freedom flight." Prince Harry and Meghan attend day two of the Invictus Games on April 17, 2022 in The Hague, Netherlands. Harry and Meghan are clearly keen to tell the story of their relationship and their rift with the royals from their perspective.
Prince Harry with Meghan Markle appeared in public together for the first time at the Invictus Games in Toronto. Aside from showing the story of their courtship, the six episodes of “Harry & Meghan” also look set to highlight long-running grievances that have roiled Britain's royal family for years. The British tabloids have intensely scrutinized Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, publishing stories about her estranged family following her engagement and marriage to Harry in May 2018. In addition, Harry is challenging in court a decision by the British government to deny him police protection while in Britain. “In the Netflix trailer it’s implied the photographers, including me, were trying to get a shot of the royal couple — but that’s nonsense,” he told the tabloid.
This time round, Charles III hosted the first state visit of his reign and welcomed South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to the UK. The South African state visit was Charles’s first big diplomatic test. But this week, the prominence of the Prince and Princess of Wales during the state visit indicated that the couple have been elevated into crucial central roles. London CNN Business —The UK economy shrank in the third quarter, signaling the start of a recession that is likely to hit Europe next. UK GDP fell 0.2% between July and September, ending five consecutive quarters of growth, the Office for National Statistics said on Friday. Recession stalks EuropeThe Bank of England warned last week that the UK economy could experience its longest recession since the 1940s. The European Commission warned Friday that high inflation and rising interest rates are likely to tip the euro zone into recession in the fourth quarter. Still, the Commission expects GDP growth in the euro area to remain positive next year and in 2024.
The result is an uneven campaign that reinforces a sense the Emmy-winning series risks extending its reign too long. When Charles privately tells his mother in regard to Diana, “I’ve done as you asked, mummy. “The Crown” has been great, as the Emmy haul for its fourth season attests, and it’s still pretty good. Yet given the highs that the younger versions of these characters delivered, to borrow from the Queen, watching the current season feels more like a preference than a requirement. “The Crown” begins its fifth season November 9 on Netflix.
